'today my ranger engine died during roll out.
restarting it was no problem, afterwards it would only run at 1100 rpm
throttling back would cause it to stop again.
outside temp was 26 celsius and I was using 100 ll fuel
never had this before.
any thoughts?

Re: engine stopped on roll out
'How many hours since a carb overhaul? How about
engine run up prior to takeoff? Everything normal?
What Ranger model? 175? 200? What carb is
installed?
I think you need to provide more information regarding
your problem.

'Hello Mike,
Run-up was perfect.During landing one hour later this occured.carb has
been overhauled 600 hrs ago.switching tanks did not help.there is no
entry in the engine log for type of carb, but I think it is a Bendix.
engine is a c-2 converted to c-5 spec.
restarting was easy, two strokes with the throttle and leaving throttle
closed.but it would stop shortly thereafter.only at >1000 it kept
running.
I am a little reluctant to fly again without knowing what caused this..
Thanks for any help.

Re: engine stopped on roll out
'Hmmm, hard to say without being there, possibly the engine idle adjustment needs attention or the carb float may be having troubles. Or maybe the plugs need a change. I would certainly refer your problem to an engineer to check out. You should verify what carb you have installed. The Bendix is pretty much trouble free while the Marvel-Schebler has a list of Airworthiness Directives as long as your arm. If you do have a M-S, check to see that all AD's have been complied with.
Good luck,
Mike

Re: engine stopped on roll out
'Remko,
Here's my 2 cents.
My guess would be to pull the carb and clean the crap out of it.
600 hours is how many years ago? It sure doesnt take very much to clogg the
idle circuit, which would explain why it runs ok above 1000RPM. As you leave
idle the main jet takes over.
Try to figure out the model and get the gaskets before you take it apart.
