Brake fluid

I have recently refurbished my brakes and am wondering what fluid to
use ? have heard some horror stories ?
I am using the original system .

Do not use 5606!! It will destroy your system.

If you want to switch over to Syn Dot 5 you can do so now You will need to flush the entire system with de-natured Alcohol. It must be free of all mineral base other wise it will foam up and render brakes non-effective. Make sure you annotate the logs and mark the Brake system of what type. I make up a fluids list for the older aircraft for the A&P and next owner.

If you stick with the old Dot 4 you will have the moisture problem, corrosion, and paint stripping capability.

'I concur with Jamie. Save your old Dot 3 & Dot 4. It makes a good poor mans substitute for paint remover.
