True, but remember there are very, very few of those over here.(off
the top of my head I can think of 4 or 5 active aircraft and there
may be one or two in museums) so any source of spares is interesting!
If I ever need pistons I have to seriously consider having them made,
it might be worth looking at but you are right, I would prefer to see
inside!

Meanwhile off shortly to put the Rearwin back together after another
one of those 25 greasings and checks. I have also fitted a radio to
replace the Microair (I have now actually met someone in the UK that
likes theirs!) and I want it ready for the new year's day fly-in we
have at Popham.

It is a great motor but mine cost more than my brother paid for his
house! This is the UK after all and we pay through the nose for
everything. (anyone feel like Cessna 152 for close on $200 an hour
rental?)

What do Brits think about vacationing over here? A Brit can have a real nice
flying vacation on the cheap. Everything is 1/2 off!

'I love vacationing in the States but the problem is that with
everything here double the price and our wages only similar to yours
we have no money to pay for the air fares!!!

The UK is now one of the three most expensive places to live in the
world, we work longer, have higher stress levels and less disposable
income than most other countries. A couple of years back I had the
evil fun of watching an American friend put gas in his rental car
here. The look on his face was priceless! We are paying about $1.85
per litre for road gas, I am paying £1.23 litre (close to $2.40) for
100LL, the Rearwin burns about 33 litres an hour.

There is a lot about this country that is great but prices are not one of them.

I have been over and flown a few times but not for a couple of years.
I was over twice this past years, once to Boulder City Nevada for a
friend's memorial service and then other to the Washington Book Fair
so an aviation only trip is out for a while. I have some good friends
in the US and until recently had the offer of fuel only time on a T6
but that has been sold - economics gets everyone - but hopefully I
will be over later this year.

I will be flying to France in May though, that is always fun.

You are not too far from a friend of mine that lives in Katona. He is
not exactly short of a dollar! He sent a limo to pick me up from JFK.

The other thing I do in life revolves around guitars. I have a friend
in NYC who is one of the more successful dealers in old guitars -
which are now climbing at something like 25% per year, and I was in
his old shop in Carle Place Long Island when a guy called and asked
him if he wanted to go over and play guitar at the weekend, he'd send
the Lear over to pick him up. Dave couldn't go as it was his kid's
little league game.

Different world

Those guys would be able to afford another 145 Warner! (Have another
friend on the west coast who has a bunch!)

I paid 2.57 Euro for 1 liter 100 LL which is close to $3.50!

Since we were forced to swallow that bloody Euro we lost about 40%
compared to when we still had the Dutch Florin.

I will be going to Normandy coming summer.James are you coming over
with G-RGUS?

Have fun in 2007!
