How to request aircraft records CD from the FAA

Post by dcasali »

'Three years ago I posted instructions on how to order a copy of a CD
containing all of an aircraft's records held on file with the FAA. I
just tried to do this again, and found that the data is still available,
but the process has changed, and the price (still a bargain) has doubled.

As noted by ranger440c5 recently, this is public
information, and is available for any aircraft in the registry. It
should include all 337's on file for that aircraft.

The cost now is $10 per CD.

To place an order you will need a credit card, and the aircraft N
number and serial number of the aircraft you are requesting data on. You
can find this at:

http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/aircraft_certification/aircraft_registry/n_numbers/

To place an order, go here:

http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/aircraft_certification/aircraft_registry/copies_aircraft_records/

Note that the field for N number wants only the number, not the N or NC
prefix.

The last time I did this, it took a couple of weeks to get the CD. We'll
see how long this order takes.

'To All:
I think ever owner should have a copy for there
aircraft. I was surprised by what was in the A/C log
book (STC, 337) but NOT in FAA record.

Sadly, this is also true. I found a 337 in my CD file missing the
critical accompanying documentation. The FAA had me dancing (apparently
they searched the digital files too) until my IA found a copy of the
missing letter on microfiche records that came with my aircraft.

But even so, the CD covers a gap in my logbooks, and the ownership
history is fascinating. And the price is a bargain.
