Anti-howl strips on flaps

Post by pittss1_s »

'In the Owner's Manual there is a item in Erection and Maintenance
about the proper installation of the anti-howl strip when reattaching
the flap to the wing. I can't find any other mention of this
anywhere, not in the diagram, and not in the CD. Any thoughts?'

'They mount in the flap cove area. Thin curved alum sections.

'Is this drawing 44188 on the Certified Drawing CD? Do most of the
flying 24's have these? I'm currently restoring NC81284 and during
removal I didn't see them. Makes sense, though, the bird sung like a
violin with full flaps.

'Wallace,

That is the correct drawing P/N.

Did you find a Pitts yet?

Going this weekend hopefully to look at a S1S in Texas.

'Thanks Jamie,

No, I haven't found an S1-S. Almost all of the ones that I have seen
have 30+ year old fabric. I just don't trust what might be hiding
underneath. Also, I've already got one plane in pieces, I can't
start another project. I just want to be back in the air! If you or
anyone else sees one for sale, let me know.

'Hi Jay,

Good to see that one of 81284's "sister ships" is still on the rolls.
The plane is based in Goodyear, AZ, just outside of Phoenix. Come
visit anytime.

'Hi Wallace;
I just might do that! You aren't to awfully far from me, I'm
located in Morgan, Utah, just north of Salt Lake City. I purchased my
plane a year ago and will be taking delivery of it within the next
couple of weeks. It has just come out of a total restoration. The
plane has a total of 606 hours on it since new and is located in
Milwaukee. Jay'
