do still need a glove box door and the panel under it also. The one I have
had some holes cut in it- I am trying to rerpair is but it's not looking

'Buell: Bill is right. The wrap around the rudder pedal assembly
where your heels would rest is the same diamond plate as on the
tripod fairing, wheel pant tops, etc. There's a company that makes
it NEW that I think Jamie has listed in the Tech Tips or Database
portion of the web board. I ordered quite a bit of new diamond plate
from them and was real pleased with the quality of what they sent.
I'm in Oklahoma right now working on my airplane and will see if I
can find the contact information for the company.

How is your project coming?

I'm snapping a lot of pictures during this visit to my airplane (we
are covering the wings) and will post them once I get home later in
the week.

PS: When you cover your wings, note the very odd rib lacing spacing
in the original blueprints. We are duplicating it on my wings for
the sake of authenticity, but it's WEIRD by modern standards

Bill is sending me some of the diamond plate that he had left
from a tripod fairing. It would be great to know where to get some new
because some of my fairings aren't in very good shape. My project is comming
along pretty well now. The fuselage is about ready to cover except for the
interior and the wings are ready to cover. I have the wings and stabilizers
on now to make sure everything lines up and it looks kinda neat with all the
new wood so I think I will take some pictures also before I cover it all
up.I am looking forward to seeing the pictures of your F24-I will probably
start covering the wings soon and it would be really nice to see some photos
of how to cover some of the areas -like the flap bays.

working on my airplane, so it will likely be Wednesday before I get
you the name of the company that makes the diamond plate. Did you
build new wings for your airplane? The flap bays aren't difficult to
cover, but clearance between the bolt heads on the top surface of the
flaps and the flap bay is a little tight and will require lots of
trial fitting. You will also want to spend some time fitting your
fuel tanks before you cover. Mine fit really well, but I've seen
others that stuck up above the top surface of the wing (and into the
slipstream of that super-fast airplane) and they really took away
from the look of the wing.

If you look at the blueprints on the Fairchild CD-ROM, you'll notice
that the rib stitch spacing specifications subdivide the wing
cordwise into 3 sections of 22" each. The spacing (2 - 3 - 4" or 3 -
4 - 5", depending on whether or not you're in the slipstream)
actually works out well using the 22" subdivisions. Stitching
between the ribs and the compression members is interesting, to say
the least, but all it takes is time.

If you haven't already found an interior shop, I HIGHLY reccomend
Interiors by Dene in the Oklahoma City area (forgot the name of the
podunk town, I'll get it when I find the name of the metal company).
Dene has all the original Fairchild patterns and did an outstanding
job on my airplane. Dene does quality work at very reasonable prices
in a relatively short amount of time, and he's a genuinely nice guy,
as well.

'Brad,
The spars and tip bows were ok so I didn't replace them but I did
make new ribs and leading edges. I have checked the wing tanks for fit and
they line up very nicely. I think the reason some tanks end up too high is
probably using too thick felt where the tanks rest on top of the ribs. I had
planned on puting an original interior in mine but John Berendt called and
has a turquois interior that he wasn't going to use and is sending it to me.
I think if I paint the outside turquois & white it should look very
nice.Thanks for the information about the rib stitching-& good luck covering
the wings.
