Flap woes....

'Hey group,
Anybody done any recent work on their F24 flap control system. I
removed the flooring and access panels to get a closer look at why
one flap was lower than the other in the flap up and locked
position. . It doesn't ride along the trailing edge like the other.
I found two non-working (large type) cable pulleys frozen in
position on the cable run that moves the out of position flap. Also
found a cracked wood rib (web area) near the bell crank. I THINK
this crack developed because the flap is not going all the way up,
and is riding the slip stream with a constant pressure on it.
Now, these items can be repaired, but my biggest concern is I think
this aircraft has been miss rigged somewhere along the way. The
repair manual I'm working out of, UC61-K (AN 01-115CA-2) shows three
different cable length and sizes, but the print is so small it's
impossible to read cable length, diameter, and position of
installation. I've got to figure out correct sequence of
installation for different cable thickness, starting at the flap
control lever. I think that's where the miss rigging has occurred.

I've been looking at the manual so long with a magnifying glass,
I've developed a permanent twitch in my right eye that damn near got
me slapped at Denny's last night.

'I had some time this morning and looked at the CD and it mentioned that
all 6 of the large pulleys on the flap system are A-114. I guess with that
information, you will need to cross reference the cable size and diameter
into something that has a newer number. I noticed that 4 of the pulleys use
an AN4-10 bolt, and the two located to the rear of the wing spar attach
fittings use an AN5-22 with a 42259 spacer. (It is on the CD)
It may be possible to replace the pulleys and only require minor
re-rigging.
I will check my E-mail on Friday to see how the repairs are coming.
I am just about out of time for today. Need to go to work and make some
money.'
