Covering on Plywood.

Post by hotfoot49 »

'Bob.

Thanks for you thoughts. I remember Steve Whitmans accident. I
think it was determined that the fabric on the plywood wings came
loose and the result was as you described it. I think they determined
that the fabric wasn't properly attached to the wood. Not bonded to
the plywood. (Beded in dope). If people go by the acceptable methods
and techiques in AC 43.13-1B and the procedures in the manuals of the
systeum you are using, you shouldn't have any trouble. I think our
information we have put out the last couple days is all part of the
acceptable ways to do it. It may sound like we have a alphabet of
ideas and ways but we are really doing it the same. I didn't explain
everything in my coments and I would hope that if somebody wasn't
knowlagable in dope and fabric, they would find someone to guide them.

The manuals tell the acceptable way to do covering. Howard did put
a tape over the seam but built up a smooth finish on their planes.
(DGA 15's). The wing I have been talking about (PT) that I'm working
on had tapes over all the seams. They did have fabric that was wide
enough so there wasn't a seam behind the rear spar. We have a wealth
of knowlage out there so no one should have to reinvent the wheel as
the saying goes.
