Oil use:was Ranger Engine Break-In

Post by plsurflyin@aol.com »

'Hi guys,

My engine has about 350 hours smoh on it. I fly locally at about 2100 rpm and
on trips between 2250 and 2300. I don't baby the engine.

I try to baby it on start up and I let it warm up before applying
power...always. I use 60 wt oil in her year round. I just bit the bullet and bought a
barrel. I carry extra oil with me in old Phillips containers I pull out of the
trash at our airport and then wash out.

I did Ed Wegner's piston mod and rerouted my air/oil exchanger line 2 years
ago.

I now use 1 qt or oil or less per hour. I am going to try a couple of changes
that Mike Denest suggested, but am very happy with my engine right now.

don

ps...Thank you John Berendt, Ed Wegner and Mike Denest for all your help and
concern regarding these fine old planes.
