'i have been cleaning up my cowlings and noticed on the nose cowl the
numbers 39-2 on several pieces is this ayear and month dating or
manufactures numbers does any body have an idea'

'I found stamped numbers on some of my Ranger cowling peices and on
some other sheet metal parts. Also found the word "Assembly" with no
numbers or other markings on lots of metal parts. None of the
stamped numbers on the sheet metal corresponded with any type of
dating system, but maybe earlier airplanes like yours utilized a more
logical system. It's an interesting research issue.
