Vintage prop question PT-23 Cira 1942

Post by the_archive_guy »

'gent's...

I'm new to this chat group..

I would like to ask your advice on how to obtain value info on an old
prop that I have from my fathers estate.

Here is what I do know:
Wooden Prop
MFG logo on it : made by S&S Aircraft LTD, Winnipeg, Canada
following info burned into hub:
Year of MFG 1942
Diameter: 85 Inch
Pitch: 61
Ranger-644C5
two other numbers stamped: a SSS220D & SERW1067

This Item was actually used on a Fairchild Cornell trainer Circa 1942
(suspect it was a PT-23)

I am trying to determine what the actual resale value would be. I
Any suggestions?

I also know that this item was used at a training field in
Ontario, Canada. My dad was a flight mechanic there during the early
40's.

Your help would greatly be appreciated

Regards

Tim (from Canada)'

'You have a PT-19/26 prop for a Ranger engine. The value will depend on
whether it is glued with Resorcinol glue or not. You can tell by
looking at the laminations to see if the glue has a reddish brown color
and is fanned out into the wood pores. Props not glued with the resin
glue will sometimes delaminate when moved to another climate. I have
had two do it.
