'A gentleman at S-n-F approached me asking how much he could get for a
Ranger packed in a crate in that preservative stuff (the name of
which escapes me). He had wanted to start an aviation museum so had
been collecting things for a long time but realized the project was
not feasible. Anybody have a ball park $ amount for that engine with

'I would not give more than $1,000.00 if it has been run. Maybe more if new
in crate. Remember, the engine should be taken down fully and cleaned and
lubed before running. I think someone in the club put on a WW II new engine and
went flying. It failed after about 25 hours.

'The big question(s) on the value is whether it is a military "runout"
or factory new. I've known of several folks who thought they were
getting the latter and it turned out to be the former. Even so, the
military runouts were often low time. Also, if it has accessories
that adds to the value.

I concur with Gene, $1000 if runout or unknown. A bit more if new
and/or with accessories.
