'Can anyone supply the following ;
3/8"-24 steel hex nuts to these dimentions:
.506 or 1/2" across the flats,
.344 or 11/32" in height,.
.085 or 3/32" wall thickness
The bottom of the nut is undercut about a 1/32" all around to give the
effect of a washer.
These are the original dimentions of the base nuts used on the 1935
Warner Super Scarab 145hp 7 cylinder radial following the factory
modification to 3/8"-24 studs. We are completing a total rebuild of a
1936 Fairchild 24 C8E and the Warner SS50A engine so want to keep it as
original as we can. Hope you can assist us.

'This is a wild guess. Have you tried rod bolt nuts for a old Ford flat head?

'Find automotive supply house that can order from Pioneer Products. They have
connecting rod bolts and nuts for almost everything in automotive. You
should be able to look at the size listing in the catalogue and find what
you want.

If your cyl. base studs are factory mfg. studs, they are 3/8-24 + .005

(They probably did the +.005 so you couldn't use just any nut.)
They are also hardened to about r/c 30 if I remember right. (probably because
of the thin wall.)
(Torque Hint!) The book calls for 200 - 225 in. lb.. I found out the
hard way that if you torque the nut to 225 in. lb., the stud might be pulled out
of the case. That requires drilling & tapping the case for a stud that is
oversize on that end only.
I now torque to 200 in. lb. max.
You might try John Duncan at 719-481-4115. or Harman Dickerson at
573-449-6428.
