'Well, it's annual time again, and cylinders 6 & 7 of the Warner 145 on
my engine are coming up far short on the compression test. Two months
ago we measured them while running down a misfire, and they were around
74; now (25 hrs later) they are both under 20. Curiously, the engine
seems to run just fine. Just to be sure, we flew it an hour today and
remeasured-- same lousy compression, even though I got 2150rpms on takeoff.
We can hear air hissing out of the engine breather tube, so it's
probably going by the rings. The jugs come off tomorrow.
Now the question is, who rebuilds Warner 145 cylinders? I have the Parts
and Services file-- it lists Harris Engine for cylinders and Al Ball,
Harmon Dickerson, and Forest Lovley for Warner repairs and overhauls.
Can anyone recommend a cylinder shop besides Harris; also, what have the
experiences with Harris been? (Harris is quoting a month turnaround; I
hate to be down that long.)

You can try Radial Engines, they have overhauled Warner engines.
Forest Lovley is booked up for one year.
Upon removal, you may want to do a dimensional check, if it is within
new or low side of field limits, a light honing and install new
rings. Check the valves for seating and wear on seat and guide. Check
the valves for leakage. Reinstall and check again in a few hours.
Convert back to Mineral oil for twenty hours or so.

'Dan, Central cylinder in Omaha,Ne. can and has worked on Warner cylinders.
Ouestion , What carb , and prop are you using on your F-24. I have never been able ot get 2150 rpm on take off ? Thanks

'Never heard of Harris. A month is not bad at all. The shop I use that is
in the same building as I am is running an easy month as well.
I would go with Forest Lovely but he is out on the big Ford Tour at the
moment..
