First flight for rescued Fairchild
'Hi,
I'm posting this for my dad. He is a member of this group. He reads
avidly but I think he does not post. I joined temporarily to post a
link to photos you might enjoy.

Dad rescued a 1936 (I think) Fairchild from a pitiful retirement in
the back of an old hangar. After a few weeks of work, today was the
day for flight!
It was not a great day for flying, but the plane performed well.
Better than pilot Dad did, he says. Fairly strong 90º cross wind.
Dad has another one just like it at home in the garage. That one
was quite a basket case.
Maybe Dad will pipe up now, in case anyone has any comments or
questions.

Re: First flight for rescued Fairchild
'Hi All;
That rescued Fairchild looks like one I saw last summer in an old hangar at
Morris, Illinois. If it is, it's a 1939 model. the N number, N20627, would
be from the 1938 or 1939 series. The rounded windshild sides and the gear
legs also indicate it is not a 1936 model. Congrats! It's nice when we can
keep a Fairchild flying.

'According to the FAA records it is a 24K. In fact, when I bought my 24R46A
from Bob Bushby at the Morris Illinois airport there was another 24 on the
field, owned by a Mr. James Clow (with whom I spoke to see if he would also
sell) and it was locked in a hanger at there at Morris airport. He
supposedly had another one at his house right down the street. Looks like
your dad made a nice find. Good luck and many happy hours of Fairchild
flying!'

'Gene , We are still waiting for the Curtis Reed prop spinners that you promised us six months ago. What's the word? Tom and Charlie Mitchell.

Re: First flight for rescued Fairchild
'Thanks John. The Kitty Hawk trip is actually coming up and I'm looking forward to taking the 24. Had her out last evening for a short hop along the Connecticut shore of Long Island Sound. Smooth as silk! Delivered the Aeronca Defender to the new owner about a week and a half ago. It served me well for 18 years but the 24 is my main ride now until the 26 is done. See you this summer if you're at OSH. We actually have a two week vacation scheduled so that we can take the 24 out there as well. Take care.
Steve'
