Fairchild Parts Point of Contact

Post by Jamie S. Treat »

'Bob Haas and I met quite a few interested Fairchild people at Sun-N-
Fun this past week. One person, we believe his name is Jim Hayes
mentioned he had Fairchild parts. We have lost the Business card.
There is a fellow Fairchild owner in Fla. that is in need of the F-
24 knuckle joints. One of his has a known crack. If Jim Hayes (we
think that was his name) is reading, drop me a note. You mentioned
you are a Fairchild Yahoo member.

Or if any one has the Universal Gear joints, drop me a note.

'Jim,

The upper and lower Main Landing Gear Universal Joint. Drawing number
3330 and 3328. This 24W46 has the Cont 220 which as you know is much
heavier than the Ranger and Warner. So the Universals have taken to
cracking under the heavier loads.

'Thanks John,

Don't have that SB. If you are talking SB41-11 and companion AD note
46-21-01. And of course the SB does not talk 24R46 or 24W46, but the
AD applies to all. There is no data for repair only inspection and
replacement with new unit. If you have another SB that talks repair,
send one along when you get a chance. If memory serves me correctly,
Karl Sanger when thru this old vs new universal fittings P/N 3330 and
3328 last year. I believe Karl had some new ones made or found a
newer set.

Any repair to those fittings would be questionable due to the stress
and the additional weight caused by the heavy engine.

'Jamie,

The guy in Florida did not tell me the ship had a220. cont. The ad and
service bulletin I remember was really on the gear leg
my mistake. I have a home made universal fitting that would be easy to make
all it would take is a small vertical mill I did a article on it last year
or in 2000 it was made out of bar stock. The cost of making the original
one is out of the question. I wonder if Solberg has any, Joe or Mike denest
should be able to find out

'John: Concerning the gear leg u-joints, I had a bunch made up out of 4130 chromemoly. They are the rough castings that are double the thickness of the steel. These are available if anyone needs them. They would have to be finished with bushings installed. Bill Spriggs
