Cleaning the belly...

What do you recommend to clean the oil off of the cowling and belly? My
aircraft is painted with Imron. I've been using 409 on the belly. I know that
it is corrosive to the metal cowling, so am looking for something that I can
clean both with confidence.

My oil consumption went way down since we turned the air/oil separator 90
degrees.

Now a couple of adjustments to the Aeromatic prop and I'm in business... :-)

'Mineral spirits is good to clean oil off of almost anything w/o hurting the finish.
Do not use wax on your Polyurethane finish because it will fill the pours of the paint which will not allow it to breath. Any polish with no wax is Ok to use. Ams/oil sells a product that will allow you to clean the finish w/o using soap and water and it will polish your finish at the same time. I believe that they call it "Miracle wash". I have been using it for the past five years and I have never washed the finish with soap and water. The only time the plane gets any water on it is if it happens to set out in the rain at a fly-in. For what it's worth!

My neighbor put me on to using about a half cup or so of diesel to a gallon
of water. Preferably warm to hot water. It cuts the oil and cleans bellies
real well and the price is right. As I was getting about a gallon of oil on
my belly per flight, it was a real help.
