PT-26 exhaust manifold
'Does anyone have a PT-26 exhaust manifold for sale or advice on
where we might purchase one.

'Cliff,
What we need is the aft part of the external section, the
tailpipe, so to speak. I think that's number 4 in figure 90, but ours
is longer and is curved away from the fuselage.

Take your pick of new systems. The Wag Aero type are made of mild steel
coated, what I consider the cheapes. Will rust out in a few years. Or you can
get an original type setup, SS mix stamped from Aircraft Exhaust Systems.

'Robert, could you look at the parts manual and state exactly which part
you are looking for? The parts fig. 1 and 2 are normal stacks for all
pt-19 and 26 aircraft.
I have never seen parts 4, 5, and 6 but assume they are parts for a
special heater exchange system. It appears that tube, item 6, goes down
the middle of the exhaust stacks and carries ram air, to be heated by
exhaust gasses, to the heat valve.
Has any one had experience with these things and perhaps a photo for us
to look at?

the middle of the exhaust stacks and carries ram air, to be heated by
exhaust gasses, to the heat valve.

'Cliff, The tube I think you are referring to that attaches to the
right stack crosses under the engine and is suppose to attach to the
intake manifold with a overboard dump. That tube is part of the
manifold heat riser to keep the fuel in the intake system atomized so
you don't burn up that #6 cylinder running it to lean. A lot have
been removed over the years and never reinstalled. The one on my 24R
had been welded over and the intake manifold was blocked off.

exhaust system that was designed for the Canadian
Cornells is thin guage mild steel and must be
constantly maintained. Due to the age of the metal,
the thickness and the exposure to corrosive exhaust,
cracking is a constant problem. The connection to the
heat box must be a high heat resistant, flexible
conduit. The tight radii bends from the intensifer
tube to the heat box cause cracking of the conduit
from vibration.
Originally, the heat box was aluminum and had to be
removed on a regular basis for cleaning. There is an
AD that covers this. The AD went away if the box was
constructed of stainless steel.
Save yourself a lot of grief and downtime by using the
separate three into one exhaust stacks used on the
PT-19.

On the CD-rom, there is a picture of the mentioned exhaust system.
Look under F24R photos "F24R-46 ECGXP". On this UC-61K for unknown
reasons there was this canadian exhaust system installed. Was, they
took it off because it was badly corroded and anyway in Spain one
does seldom use heating in aircraft. Not a very good picture, but it
may help.
