To Three Point or not to Three Point

Post by dcasali »

'Three months ago I purchased a 1937 Fairchild 24-G, a Warner powered
aircraft in wonderful condition. This aircraft has the original free
swivelling tailwheel assembly (although the wheel itself in now a Scott
6" wheel and tire).

I have no previous experience in Fairchilds or free swivelling wheels.
The instructor that checked me out in the Fairchild stated in no
uncertain terms that my aircraft was best wheel on during landing, and
to avoid 3 pointing it.

I've religiously adhered to this advice, though I intend to try 3
pointing after the snow melts and I can find an open grass strip.
Meanwhile, I'd love to know what the concensus is among experienced
operators.'
