Re: Ranger Engine on PT-19

'Check the Spring of 1992 and the Spring of 1997 Newsletters. I think I like the one in 1997 better, but your choice

Re: Control Cables

'I don't have my Aircraft Spruce catalog available at present, but I remember seeing a note in the cables, etc. section that if you sent them the original cables with the swaged or other connections, they would duplicate it. I don't know about the UK CAA requirement part.

Re: mogas

'Mike, as John says anything goes except alcohol. I have the Peterson STC and they recommend 1/4 100LL which brings the lead down to about what 80 octane used to be. Supposedly for valve lubrication according to them. I have been using that 3 to 1 mix and it runs fine as it does with straight mogas ...

Re: Ranger Mods

'Thanks for all the back ups, guys. As with most of you, I get a little less than 1q/h just piddling around and if I am pushing it, closer to 1.5 q/h. Normal is the 1 to 1.5. I believe the Ranger or Fairchild book says excessive is over 2.5 q/h. I was there before the overhaul.

Re: Ranger Mods

'It is called the Menasco Mod and is a few holes drilled below (above - it is an inverted engine) the oil ring on the pistons. No changes on the cylinder. John Ferrero did mine (J&C Aircraft Engines) and after break in about 50 hours I am down to 1 to 1.5 quarts per hour. I don't know if John still ...

Re: Airspeeds..

'Hi Tom,

When I picked up my 24 with the C-5 engine I was checked out with the 80/85 airspeeds for climb and all seemed normal. When I brought it home I was being chased by my buddy in a 210 Swift. I knew he climbed at 100 to keep things cool so I attempted to do the same in the 24. I'll be ...
