In need of help !

'Hello everyone!  My name is Matt and I am new to the group. I have an urgent need that I am hoping that someone can assist me with. I have an agreement to purchase a Fairchild F24. The airplane is out of state and I am trying to make arrangements to go get her. I have several problems. First problem is that the airplane is out of annual. Getting it in annual is not very practical due to the distance and time required but a ferry permit should not be an issue. Next problem is that I can not get insurance to fly it home unless I get an hour of dual in a Fairchild 24. I Can't very well get dual in an airplane that is out of annual not to mention that the  owner passed away and I don't have a qualified pilot for the dual instruction or in reality an airplane to do it in. The plane is in MT and the FAA database shows a few 24 owners near by. Reidar Ilvedson in Forsyth and Jimmie Crump in Bozeman. I am in Atlanta GA and there are a few owners listed in
this area as well but I have not been able to get in contact with any of them. The winter weather is setting in and I have to act fast or the window will close until spring.
Can anyone help? I am getting desperate here. I keep hitting road blocks at every turn. I am in love with this airplane and don't want to give up.  Taking her apart and trailering is a last option and I don't really want to risk damaging the plane in dis assembly and transport.

Any assistance or advice is greatly appreciated ...

Regards,

Matt

'I would prefer to have it in annual but I'm not sure that is going to be possible .. getting the plane in a shop and getting the guys up there to work on it is a logistical nightmare, not to mention very costly. The plane is in very good condition it just hasn't flown in a few years. The last annual was about 18 months ago and it was not flown even after the annual was done. I have spoken to the A&P that did the last annual and he said that getting the plane airworthy and obtaining a ferry permit would not be a problem but he didn't really have time to do the annual.
Where are you located and besides travel, food & lodging, what would you charge me to fly it to Atlanta, GA? It's about 10-12 hours of flying.

'Hi Tom,

Where are you located? Anywhere near billings MT? I am not a wealthy
individual so forgive me for asking, but what would you normally
charge for your services? I have to make this move on a limited
budget and hauling it home in a truck is looking like the most cost
effective. I offered to assist the A&P in MT on the annual but he
hasn't even agreed to do an annual.. access to tools and suitable
facilities may be a problem. Getting the annual would be great
because then maybe I could get the needed dual to fly the thing home
myself. Ferry permit would be fine if I had a qualified pilot along
and can get insurance. I would like to be on the trip as well. FSDO
would probably approve but I don't know for sure yet.

Thanks for the interest and help Tom !

Matt

'Tom you could be the answer to my prayers.
My ideal scenario would be for you to come to Billings and look the plane over, help me get it in annual, test fly it, check me out in it, and then send me on my way home to GA in a safe plane with insurance coverage. Funds are limited but I do have some reserve money to help make this move. I don't know if I can afford you, but we should certainly talk. I am not an A&P but have been working on airplanes forever and have assisted on many annuals including my own. I will be there to do all of the grunt work if you just want to supervise. I was plannig to go up there next week to start the process but have not been able to get everything organized. The weather is getting bad and I have to get it out of MT soon.

I have been looking at your videos and web site for months while I was searching for this plane. Your trip home was an adventure. The 24 is a beautiful classic and your's is a standout. Great job.
