Most floatplanes have a higher MTOW that their landplane equivalent.
The floats provide aerodynamic lift so their complete additional weight
isnt supported by the wing.

Why would the TBO matter for part 91 operation? Are you working your
old Fairchild?
And Im glad the Continental is doing well for you, Dick. Im certain
its an easier engine to support and a little more power never hurts.

There are two documents on the Fairchild CD about Continental
conversions. One is a 337 for N81229: Continental W670 and Hamilton
Standard prop. There is no weight & balance information, but it shows
22 pounds of ballast required in the tail.
The other is a one-time STC for N77681: Continental W670 and Beech
prop. No permanent ballast is required, but the useful load is
placarded at 531 pounds. With full tanks that leaves 183 pounds
payload and Im 190, so its not even a one-place aircraft for me!
