'Dear group,
I just joined up. Have just brought home a very pretty 24W40 to Texas
from San Diego. I am working on some uploads to my website
www.planeplace.com to chronicle a wonderful trip from Gillespie
Field, El Cajon, CA to Spicewood, TX. I have communicated with some
of you with many questions during the aquisition period -- Thanks to
all who helped with advice and encouragement.
The plane is a great flyer -- a bit more power would be nice, but a
real gentle machine. It will take some time before I can plant a
landing and keep a perfect roll-out on the hard surfaced runways!
The wide gear (and the pilot) really walks on a wheel landing -- I
think the best results were full-flap, 3pt. At least nothing happens
too fast in this wonderful old airplane.
My notes, so far, is I think my Warner 145 is a bit "over propped".
Static RPM is not-quite 1800rpm max--and you have to lean to get
there. I am running an earlier SS50 taper-shaft with the Hartzell
706E prop that shows a 63" pitch -- We'll be tinkering with all
aspects of the engine to see if we can get a few more RPM, but I do
have some interest in finding a more "climb" pitch prop and hub.
Keep those inputs coming -- the original std. configuration was a
Sensenich -- also 63" pitch, however a 58" was an option. Any info
on similar experience with this engine/prop combo greatly appreciated!
Glad to be on "the list"
Thanks,
Glenn'
