' Or is it more like: 1) Tailwheel shakes partly by design (i.e. marginal trail to start with) partly by age (spring sag increases travel of tailwheel upward relative to airplane and makes for reduced castor angle and trail) partly by user habits (e.g. under inflation and 3-point landing). Then 2) spline rivets loosen, and then 3) tailwheel shakes more until 4) breakage occurs. To make it easier on your tailwheel assembly, keep tailwheel inflated to spec (45 psi) and use wheel landing, especially on hard surfaced runways, and set tail down at lowest speed possible. The F24 puts a lot of weight on the tailwheel. Try to minimize it. Steve, You missed it. The PT has 7 splines if memory serves. The F-24 has 2. They are held in place with rivets. Rivets become loose, tailwheel shakes. Charlie bell has been integrating the PT into the F-24 for years. Distribute the load on 7 splines. JST From:
Subject: RE: [fairchildclub] Tail wheel question Hmmmmm, OK, but the thread starting at the bottom reads the other way unless I'm missing something here....

None. Flip the install. PT in a F24. Sent via the Samsung Galaxy S® 4 mini ™, an AT&T 4G LTE smartphone Date:11/05/2015 11:51 AM (GMT-07:00) To: Cc: Subject: RE: [fairchildclub] Tail wheel question
What is the advantage of using the F-24 tailwheel in the PT series? From: Will not work as is. Charlie Bell (Fla) has been converting the F-24 to 7 spline. JST From: Good Morning All, I was asked yesterday if the tail wheel assembly for F-24 series will work on PT series.. I think splines are different, but I haven’t any more knowledge.. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. John '
