'Still would like to know if there have been any issues with F-24 wing struts, similar to other fleets that have discovered problems after fatalities. Anyone know about any kind of pattern with these, or are they as robust as they seem to be?

Hi Frank
Thank you for your offer to borrow the flywire tension tool
after looking at the Website and confiring with our Inspector, I do not see any way to
attach the tool to the drag wires due to rib placements. I will continue to research
the torque issues and report our findings
thanks
JIM C.

Jim,

I bought one of these from Holloway Engineering

http://www.radialengine.com/flywire/flywire2.htm

And then graphed out and interpolated for the tensions that are off his 'Tie wire' scale. I have not used it yet as I have not got that far.

Maybe if you graph out his figures we could then compare our results and if there is an appreciable difference take a closer look to see who is right.

If you would like to borrow my tool then just let me know and I will get it to you.

Hi All
Our UC-61K restoration is humming right along. Wings are rebuilt and ready to cover.
During inspection of the wing struts we found 1 forward and 1 aft strut damaged (dented)
per the manual no damage is allowed. Does anyone have spares avialable for sales or trade?

I am also looking for a tool or method to check tension on the drag and anti-drag wires in the wing bays?
We have some "good old boys" suggestions and want to compare

thanks!

'No Bill, because the struts on a 24 are open at the bottom and they drain any moisture. the struts that have problems are the ones that are welded closed and rust from the inside out.

'Jim,
Surely you've run across the short paragraph in the Rigging and lubrication manual that states,

" There are no established tensions for the rigging of the internal wing brace wires. They are rigged per standard practice. Tensions of the two wires in any one bay are balanced to bring that bay perfectly square when checked diagonally from spar centers with trammel points. " there!? and don't call me surely.
