' It is time to replace my PTs main landing gear springs, as the strut is slowly getting lower when at rest.  New springs (61107) were purchased years ago when someone was having a batch fabricated. But I’m having trouble removing the Victoprene Seal assembly (61141) from the top of the (61112) strut assembly.   After removing the 4 AN510 screws the stop collar (61118) is still firmly in place. The top of the strut and collar is smooth – like it has been installed upside down or is actually a solid piece. The cup face must be facing into the strut but I can’t tell if that is the case. Perhaps there is a solid piece in place of the 61118 collar.   Any info that can help me open up the strut to change the main gear spring would be appreciated.   Also, is the actual Victoprene seal still available? Or what can be used in place of that?

Any good Hot Rod shop probably could tell you where to go to get them made.  All that you need to know is the over all diameter of the spring, diameter of the material. number of coils per foot, and length of the spring.  They may want to know what the load is.  You can research the topic in the old Emails.  A friend of my went to a spring fabrication shop in KC Missouri or Kansas with a spring for a cabin Waco and they only had to say when and how many do you want?

'Charles:

Steve Dennis in Rice Lake, WI has new main gear springs for the PT's. See his information on page 7 of the FAIRCHILD FLYER under PARTS. The seals should come out without much trouble. Just the 4 screws holding them in. There aren't any of the originals seals out there anymore. Bill Tromblay in Mukwango, WI can make a new seal assembly. Contact him by Phone. 414-313-5542 or e-mail bill.tromblay@gmail.com He made new ones for me and they really are working good. They are better than the originals. Were your old Ranger stacks the welded seam ones?? I think they were a little shorter than the origianl round tube ones. Charles at AWI said he had the drawing for the stacks when I talked to him this summer about making new ones for the Club.

'Mike - thank you for the lead on replacement on of the strut seals. I've ordered some from Bill Tromblay.
On the Ranger exhaust stacks - my old ones did have the welded seams and are about 1 1/2  inches shorter than the new ones from AWI. Makes a nice difference on how clean the belly stays!'
