' Jim,I've been flying our original Army Air Corps Waco YPT-14 / UPF-7 since 1973 with Hayes wheels and brakes. I also fall hard into the “purist” category. I suppose and I want my airplanes as close to how they left the factory as possible. After all, Waco built just 13 of these and only a few survive. Having said that, I finally bit and installed the Cleveland STC kit this past winter. I finally came around to realize it was probably better to have modern, new, instead of 75 year old brake shoe castings helping keep this thing where it belongs and not on it's back or in a ditch. I had several conversations over the years with guys who had the Cleveland and they all said the same thing…. Not worth risking bending a Curtiss Reed or wrecking the airplane because of a shoe failure. Do I like the new look as much as the old? No. But if it saves me a rebuild and an original Reed (and makes it easier to allow others to fly it), I'm in. Same with my SRE, Cleveland's. I understand your devotion to original and applaud the desire to keep it that way; Good luck with your decision, but do consider safety and ease of maintenance.
Cheers-Dave

Posted by: avdflyr@cox.net?subject=Re%3A%20Hayes%20Brake%20Parts I checked my records for the banjo copper washers, and the numbers are as follows; I ordered all of these through AMAZON.COM
Large copper washer (is smooth surface but the banjo will make the serrations)
15mm,… made by DMI, and another by SUR&R AUTO PARTS
I got 20 for $10.26
Smaller copper washer (also smooth)
13mm x 18mm x 1.5mm
Source for Amazon was UX CELL
I got 20 for $6.00

The copper gaskets for the banjo fitting are available in any quantity from Amazon. I just bought about 30, just for spares. You will need to know the right size in metric.

Hi All
I know over the years I have seen emails back and forth about Hayes Brake parts for the F24 and PT airplanes.
I would like to know if anyone has current Hayes or NAPA part numbers for the Bleeder Screw, "Banjo Fitting" and all the gaskets and seals associated with the Hayes brake system.
I have brake pucks and springs and quite a few frames. but all the fitting and seals are non airworthy.
for reference:
UC-61 Illustrated parts manual AN01-115CA-4 Figure 30 items 3 through 16
PT Illustrated parts manual AN01-115GA-4 Figure 35 items 3 through 20
With this information, I will compile an up to date list for the club to use.

Just enter 'metal sealing washers' to view the catalog page. The copper washers sourced through Amazon probably were supplied by McMaster Carr. Amazon's business is selling other business' product lines via their computer systems. When possible, always go directly to the source. Many items and raw materials needed for aircraft restoration are stocked by McMaster Carr.

As long as you have ordered them maybe you could tell everyone the sizes in metric that you ordered.

Subject: [fairchildclub] Hayes Brake Parts
Hi All
I know over the years I have seen emails back and forth about Hayes Brake parts for the F24 and PT airplanes.
UC-61 Illustrated parts manual AN01-115CA-4 Figure 30 items 3 through 16
PT Illustrated parts manual AN01-115GA-4 Figure 35 items 3 through 20
With this information, I will compile an up to date list for the club to use.
thanks

Just enter 'metal sealing washers' to view the catalog page. The copper washers sourced through Amazon probably were supplied by McMaster Carr. Amazon's business is selling other business' product lines via their computer systems. When possible, always go directly to the source. Many items and raw materials needed for aircraft restoration are stocked by McMaster Carr.

As long as you have ordered them maybe you could tell everyone the sizes in metric that you ordered.

The copper gaskets for the banjo fitting are available in any quantity from Amazon. I just bought about 30, just for spares. You will need to know the right size in metric.

Subject: [fairchildclub] Hayes Brake Parts
Hi All
I know over the years I have seen emails back and forth about Hayes Brake parts for the F24 and PT airplanes.
UC-61 Illustrated parts manual AN01-115CA-4 Figure 30 items 3 through 16
PT Illustrated parts manual AN01-115GA-4 Figure 35 items 3 through 20
With this information, I will compile an up to date list for the club to use.
thanks
