Prop hub bolts

'Hi,

I'm missing a few prop hub bolts for Sensenich/Ranger. Do I need a
special bolt or can AN bolts be used?

Also, anyone know where to get Ranger magneto mounting bolts? They are
3/8-16 x 3/4" with a drilled head. I need 4.

Thanks,
David

'David, The propeller hub bolts are AN but not AN7-?? standard bolts. They are AN5018 boltsFIXED PITCH WOOD PROPELLER and TEST CLUB. I measured a bolt I have for my PT-26propeller hub to determine the exact part number for you, it is a AN5018-20-229.(7/16 dia. length from under the head to end of threads 7-5/32) If your dimensions are different I can look up the appropriate partnumber from the AN standard drawings.
I would check the RANGER parts book for the correct bolt number. If it is just AN the Part number for the bolt you describe is AN76A5(47/64 long)  or AN76A6(57/64 long). But I would need to verify per IPC to be sure.    Ryan'

' AN5018? Sounds like a special bolt. But mine are 5" long. I'll check it again and measure the prop to be sure the bolts I think are prop bolts are actually that and not something else. I went looking through the Fairchild parts book for that number today but didn't see it. It showed the hub and the bolts but I couldn't find a number for the bolts. It was the end of the day so maybe tomorrow I'll see more than I could see today! haha Thanks for your help.

' You have to look at the Prop manufacturers installation guide. Sensenich for example has all of the props and bolts listed on their guide. Joe

I went looking through the Fairchild parts book for that number today but didn't see it. It showed the hub and the bolts but I couldn't find a number for the bolts. It was the end of the day so maybe tomorrow I'll see more than I could see today! haha Thanks for your help.

If it is just AN the Part number for the bolt you describe is AN76A5(47/64 long)  or AN76A6(57/64 long). But I would need to verify per IPC to be sure.    Ryan

'Good, solid, information. Thank you Cy. Have not read both bolt specifications, but I'm thinking they are the same material, finish and thread tolerances except for the thread length.

An bolts are Acceptable BUT with a wood prop one must be very careful one doesn't bottom out the threads.  A true prop bolt has longer threads, but ANs work very well if you are aware of the limited thread length.   Cy Galley - Chairman of Emergency Aircraft Repair A service project of EAA Chapter 75       From: fairchildclub@yahoogroups.com [fairchildclub@yahoogroups.com]

I measured a bolt I have for my PT-26 propeller hub to determine the exact part number for you, it is a AN5018-20-229.(7/16 dia. length from under the head to end of threads 7-5/32) If your dimensions are different I can look up the appropriate part number from the AN standard drawings.    I would check the RANGER parts book for the correct bolt number. If it is just AN the Part number  for the bolt you describe is AN76A5(47/64 long)  or AN76A6(57/64 long). But I would need to verify  per IPC to be sure.      Ryan
