'Hello,

I'm curently working on a PT-19A restoration project, on an aircraft that was from the Brazilian Air Force fleet.


It still has it's original paint on, and it is quite well preserved, as there is no chiping/scratches on it. It only looks a bit faded, only in the fuselage. As this is a project where we try to keep the aircraft as original as possible, I would like to bring back the looks of the fuselage paint.

Is there any procedure such as polising waxing to bring back the finish of the paint?

'I recommend talking to Nuvite Chemical and see if their Grade S polish with a Cyclo Orbital buffer would work for your application. I suspect it will be just what you need. Their web site is www.nuvitechemical.com.

1. steel structure
2. Fabric finish
3. Painted aluminum fairings

1. probably zinc chromate and will stay dull
2. Might be butyrate dope...is usually somewhat dull you can try waxing it or degrease and try a rejuvinator or shoot clear butyrate over the existing color.
3. Painted fairings might be enamel you could try a rubbing compound or polish and then waxing.

'I recently purchased a Meguiar's dual-action polisher (model g110v2) and did a three step process of their ultimate compound, ultimate polish and wax for my F-24. It was heavily oxidized. The enamel and butyrate came out very good. I was thinking of repainting the metal cowls but this satisfied me. Not to sell their projects, but you can google their website and take a look. They have a lot of choices for cutting compounds and polishes. What I liked about the polisher is it eliminates the risk of damaging the fabric for those of us who are not professional detailers.
