'Does anyone know of a source for AN fasteners that are Type I (silver colored) cad plated instead of the more common Type II (gold colored) cad plating? Thanks!

'Pete,

I don't know of any source for 'silver colored' fasteners, but if you dig throught the following website you will find how Brian Karli used a product that removes the 'gold' color but retains the plating:

Thanks so much for the tip! It certainly beats the cost of stripping
and replating fasteners, and should work on the AN365 elastic lock nuts
too. Easy and quick too. I never had idea it could be so simple. I
believe the yellow color comes from a chromium treatment that is done
after the plating.

'Cadmium plating gives the gold color.

Not really, type 1 cad is silver, it changes color when it is dipped in Alodine, which turns it into type 2 cad.

Go to the March, 2008 post for the info on the questionable process of removing the gold coloration from Type 2 cad plated fittings.
A gentle buffing with a polish like Brasso achieves the same result without harsh chemicals as used in the posted process.
