'Hi All

After standing for a year, we started my F24 yesterday. The revs were good until 1600RPM, when higher revs the engine stopped. I think it is a fuel problem. The flow from the tank is ok, so we took the carb off for inspection. It looked ok but I think a jet is blocked with old fuel.

The question is: I have a new carb. (type Stromberg 4B). Can anyone tell me wich metering jet is installed for the C5 engine? And what about the float level? Because this carb comes of a PT19 with fuel pump, and I think a float level at 9/16 inch is a bit too low, as we discovered at steep climbs.

I also read something about a setting for the C5 engine, this should be 8038 but what does this mean?

The type certificate for the Ranger Engine (TCDS No.216) calls for either a Stromberg NAR-4B, or
Marvel MA4-5.The Stromberg settings, and part numbers, are in the Stromberg Float Carburetor Specification Sheet (8038) that is specific to the C5 Ranger Engine. I have that sheet but it's way over my head. I do see it calls for a 9/16 float level, but there is where it gets tricky. If the carb your having trouble with is set for the PT series aircraft its setup for a fuel pump pressure of three pounds. As I understand it the F24R series requires only one pound and is gravity flow. Look carefully at the data plate on the carb. If it says three pounds it may not function well at high rpm's and especially at takeoff power with nose high attitude. I finally sent the carb to the below repair station. It's pricey, but one less thing to worry about. They said the float level seat or valve or something had to be shimmed because it was setup for three pounds and the fuel in the bowl would not replenish itself quickly enough at higher power settings. I suspect plugged high-speed jet. Low-speed jet will allow engine to turn up to 1600 rpm. If the engine ran well one year ago, the high-speed jet is the problem. If you had the same problem a year ago, then it is possible that someone had swapped the high-speed jet with the low-speed one.

I also have sent a carb to this repair shop -- good results but quite pricey ,since they want to install Derlin Needles:

to 1600 rpm. If the engine ran well one year ago, the high-speed jet is the
problem. If you had the same problem a year ago, then it is possible that
someone had swapped the high-speed jet with the low-speed one.

I also have sent a carb to this repair shop -- good results but quite pricey
