'I'm in need of a fuel valve for the right side. I was searching about 7 months ago and the only valve I could find was one that had male and female fittings.
Mine has 2 female fittings. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.'

'Is this valve really destroyed?
It may be possible to re-seat averything to make it work properly? no?
(I did it some years ago on our right side valve too).

'I had an old valve that I tried that on with valve compound and failed miserably at it. I read where guys were getting it like glass, but I had no luck. If I try it again on the valve thats leaking and mess it up, then I'm hosed.
Darn antiques, but someone has to fly them.....

'I just went through the process of reworking my valves. They had become so difficult to turn that I was afraid I was going to become the subject of an NTSB report. On disassembling the valves I found that they had some deep scars and metal transfer. No wonder they were so difficult to turn. I had read about surfacing the valves with valve grinding compound. I went to NAPA and purchased some oil based compound and went to work. It only took about 30 seconds to realize that the grinding compound might not be the best choice. Remember that grinding compound is designed for grinding valves and seats with a rockwell hardness in the range of 45 HRC. We are trying to cut and polish soft brass. I found that the compund left deep scratches in the cone and body. BTW .. I chucked the cone and shaft in a battery drill to spin it in the seat which worked great. I thought I had ruined the first valve so my recovery was to use some sticky backed wet sandpaper of
various grits. I cut small strips and wrapped the cone, with no overlap, and used it to polish the seat. Water keeps the paper clean and helps it cut. It will load up with the soft brass pretty quickly. Once you get a pattern of the strip width and length its easy. Then I held the paper around the cone and polished it being careful not to round the corners over. I then used ordinary red and white rubbing compund to final polish the two pieces together. A very diligent cleaning and some fuel lube and the valves are as smooth as butter and leak free. Just my experience for what it is worth. I sure feel a lot better about the valves when flying now... well worth the effort.

'Did you use some fuel lube or ez turn or just plain grease when assembling?
This generally stops the leaks but will not last as well as a good
re-lapping using toothpaste.

'Cy,
I am surprised tooth paste was not brought into the discussion earlier. I have used "Smoker's Toprol" for years for lapping brass fuel vavlves. It's just a wee bit more agressive than plain toothpaste.
