Parts for a 1939 Fairchild 24 Ranger

'I recently bought a 1939 Fairchild 24, with the Ranger engine. Although the plane was recently recovered, it has sat for a few years and needs some work done to it before it can fly again. I am looking for some parts, and was wondering if maybe someone could help point me in the right direction?

I know I need the following:

- High capacity lightweight alternator/generator for a Ranger engine.
- BRAKES: The aircraft currently has expander tube-type brakes, which are locked up. I either need parts for these, or a complete Cleveland conversion kit. Any recommendations?
- MAGNETOS, either rebuilt or new.

I have tried calling Chief, Univair, and Wag-Aero, but no one seems to have what I am looking for. The airplane and I are located in Monroe, Wisconsin - about 45 minutes straight south of madison, on the Illinois border.

Thank you very much for your time and any information you may have!!!!!'

'Fresno Airparts has the first full page advertisement on page one of Trade-a-Plane. They have Hayes brake parts, tubes, pads, springs, etc. They also did a nice job overhauling my mag's and making a wiring harness for me.

'Hi Dan
You can get parts for the expander brakes and for the magnitos from Fresno Air Parts, 520 West Kearney Blvd., Fresno, CA. 93706. Phone 559-237-4863. They also sell rebuilt magnitos for the Ranger. Some Fairchild owners are using a Jasco alternator manufactured by Skytronics Inc. 800-421-6848.
They have an STC for the installation on a Ranger.
Welcome to the club and good luck with your Fairchild.

'Dan welcome,
I installed Cleveland wheel and brakes on my 1946 F24 but found the brake application was touchy. I then installed Cleveland Master cylinders eliminating DOT brake fluid for less corrosive 5606 (red) brake fluid and allowing more brake control and feel.
I also installed the Jasco alternator, but it is not STC'd for the Ranger engine.
All of these installations require Field approvals before they are installed. You can actually get approval before you purchase any of the mods, that way if your FSDO has heart ache over any of the mods your not out any money. Just talk to your mechanic for his assistance in getting approval.
I have assisted one other Fairchild owner with his brake modification and he loves it as much as I do.
Good luck
