Hi Mike, I am assembleing a Jacob's F-24, and I have a question about the trim tab cables.

Could you put my question out to those with email. I am refering to the two short 1/16th cables between the two trim tabs. Question; How are they connected? Each one has a swedged loop on the end and one of these was cut, as if they were swedged together ?? I have put another swedge on that one, and I assume that there is to be a bolt or screw to connect them. Can some one please help me?

'Hi Mike / Gene
The UC-61 parts catalog Figure 21 identifies two turnbuckle barrels at that location. However I don't think the illistration is entirely correct as it only identifies one chain cable and you have two trim tabs. The trim cable system may be different on different models. What model F24 are you working on?

'G'day Jim,
A little bit of information which may be of interest to you. Here in Australia I have two Argus', (or is it Argi)both are Argus Is (EV806 and FK330 ,but a friend had an Argus II (HB619) and despite being originally camouflaged all had chromed (almost certainly nickel in reality)door handles. I have a nice wartime colour shot of a US marked UC-61A in which its possible to see that the door handle appears to be plated but is definitely not coloured to match the camo.If you have a look in the 1945-46 Jane's all the Worlds Aircraft there are photos of both a UC-61A and a UC-61K (US marked)and in both photos the door handle can clearly be seen which would not be the case if they were painted to match the door colour. As the RAF aircraft were painted before delivery it seem logical that the factory followed the same principles when painting them as they did with the US marked aircraft.
It would be silly to be adament about any such issues, particularly the way wartime aircraft were painted, but personally think it more than likely that the handles were not painted.

Thought you might like to know I've just found one of your Fairchild's (FK330) in the logbook of an ATA pilot, Daphne Rumball, whilst it was at RAF Thame. See my website http://www.haddenhamairfieldhistory.co.uk/Daphne%20Rumball.pdf
and go to page 3 of the pdf document.
There are several other Argus' in this and the other two pilots logbooks so members might like to have a look for their particular examples.
Sorry no photos as I am trying to stick exclusively to photos taken on the airfield and they are as rare as hens teeth.

'Hello Peter
Can You check your information logs for any record of Argus III HB-690. It arrived in England aboard the USS Samwater in Sept. 1944 and was assigned to ATA Pool.
I would like to find some more data on our plane. HB-690 is currently being restored to flying condition just outside Chicago.
thanks/Cheers
