Warner 145 Spark Plugs

Posted: Wed Jul 14, 2010 6:26 pm
by mcclurebill@rocketmail.com
'Need info fast! Just installing a fresh engine from a well-known shop. The Warner 145 originally had the plugs that were contained within the Breeze (?) bell type shields with bails. The shop installed Skytronics harness and REM40E plugs. Great, modern. However, they don't fit very well. At all. Either front or back. In back, too close to exhaust manifold. In front there is actually interference with the ring cowl on the F-24G, barely 1/8" clearance. We tried some NOS C-26S plugs, and that helped a bit. Overhauler says this has never come up before, but geometry is what it is.

Can anyone out there shed light on this? What plugs are used on the 24G's with the 145? Been through it with this plane, just trying like heck to get it back in the air.Everything else coming together, but trying to make OSH.

Thanks in advance.

'Thanks Richard. I am desperately trying to get F-24 ready. Spent 9 days in MEM installing the engine. Nothing went smoothly. Last issue: Plugs.

I will call you tomorrow. I have another question, too.

'Bill;
We run two setups on two F24 C8Es with Warner 145s, one with original Breeze shielding utilizing 7mm unshielded wires and Champion C-26 plugs (plug top req. small amount removed for breeze cap to mate). The cap bails are close to the inside lip of the cowl lip but no interference. The second C8E runs shielded wires and BG 417S shielded plugs (length 2 3/4 in). The BG plugs may have an equivalent such as 3B2-S (length 2-1/2 in.). These are old plugs but you or someone may have access. Hopefully this is helpful. Good luck.

'Bill,
I have 2 sets of plugs for your aircraft, one set is BG-706-S and the other set is C-26-S both measure 2.5 inches from the gasket to the top of the plug. they both have about 50 hours on them. and ran fine in my 165.

call me, AREA Code 360-202-0961, I'll be on cell all day.
