'You don't need an STC as long as the type certificate data sheet approves the engine, which in this case, it does.  The only problem you would have is if you are trying to install a C-5 which is a Ranger 200hp.  It can still be done, just a bit more hastle.  Been there done that!

'Hi Ashley;

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.  We live in the Dominican Republic during the winter months (we are there now) and the internet is down more than it's up!  Sounds like Jamie has given you the info you are in need of, and if there's anybody that can help you, Jamie is the one.  When I bought my airplane N81285, it had just been restored and the owner had changed the engine from a C-4 to a C-5.  We had nothing but trouble with the faa in Chicago.  TC's can be interpreted differently and that is where I think we got into trouble with the faa.  A 337 was sent in for the engine change and the way I read the TC that wasn't necessary.  Anyway we had to show the faa engineers the aircraft prints so that they could see that there was no change in the structure for a higher hp engine.  Once that was done, there was no problem.  If you have any trouble at all, let me know and I will send you the info on how we accomplished the task.  I will
not be back in the states until 17 March.  Contact me at thomsonjay@msn.com and I will send you some nice photo's of N81285.
