'Lad's, here is the invite / blurb to our annual Sun n Fun BBQ
Stroud's 10th annual Sun n Fun BBQ....What, When, Why, How and Where.
What : For about the 10th year in a row, Dave and Fran Stroud are pulling off an
excellent opportunity for Flying Friends to get together for some good food, refreshments
and Great Camaraderie right on site in an easy to find, convenient location at Sun n Fun.
We serve BBQ pork tenderloin on a bun, cole slaw, potato salad, dill pickles, chips and salsa
and a few other snacks for a flat rate of $12 including two drinks, be it wine (red or white), beer,
(light or regular), juice, water or soda( diet or not). All drinks after that are $2. Rum Punch...$3. NO BYOB.
For those in the know , wink, wink, I'll do my Rum Punch again this year. As always, the invitation is open
to singles, couples, groups and families.
When : It is on Friday night....this time Friday, April 16, 2010. We get started
around 4:30 pm or so, food starts getting served around 5:30 pm till about 7:30 pm.
" Refreshments" get served way into dark...and then some.
Why : It's common for Sun n Fun attendees to come a long way to see what's what at Sun n Fun
and especially to meet new and old friends associated with their love of all things flying. Often they
try to get together after a long day on site for a dinner and some socializing. Some chose to meet at
a typical chain style restaurant outside of the grounds and wind up unhappy for lack of transportation,
bad communication, getting lost and long lineups at the door. One site is where it's at....party
with us and avoid that long drive back to the grounds. You can walk back to your tent, camper etc.
from our place. We normally serve close to 50 people and have done up to 85. This event is not
intended to compete with Sun n Fun on site vendors, there are many good ones to choose from.
We do this to as a convenient rendez-vous for a specific group of friends.
How : We do it by RSVP only. This is how it works. Please read this part carefully. All you need to do
is say how many in your party will attend and how many of each type of beverage for each person in your group.
As we get closer to the date of the event, you'll have time to modify or cancel your RSVP if need be. We
don't take money in advance....you pay when you get there. Therefore, we ask that you be considerate
in understanding that we will be buying the food and beverages on your behalf, trusting that you will
honour your RSVP. We've wasted food etc. before and heard lame excuses such as ..."hey we just
couldn't find you...ummm, someone gave us a $10 voucher for a free chicken dinner so we went there
instead". That just doesn't cut it so please keep it in mind. Now again...the RSVP needs to be done
right. Here's an example of a good one....Four in our party, two kids and two adults, count us in for
two white wine, three light beers and four sodas...two diet and two regular. Here's an example of a bad one...
and trust me we've had worse....."Hell ya, we'll be there and we drink beer"..... We need to know how many
you are and what and how many drinks you would like. If you'd like four beers and your girlfriend wants
eight glasses of red wine just say so... we won't tell anyone. Actually she might be a good candidate
for the Rum Punch. RSVP directly to me off list at dstroud@xplornet.com again, off list please, do not reply
directly to this list message.
Where: Here's the easy part. We always stay in what's called the Overflow Campground, normally about
3/4 the way back and either on the fence near the runway or towards the middle. Get on the free Sun n Fun
shuttle tram for the Brown 2 route. It will get you to the Campground Host's Kiosk. Get off there and ask the
Campground Host for directions to our site. There are no reserved sites but they will have a card on file
under my name, they know who we are, they know there's a party going on and will give you good directions.
Enter thru the chain link fence and look for the white 27' Award Trailer with the Canadian Flag up front.
There will be more than one Canadian flag flying on the grounds...overcome this phenomenon. We will be
where we say we will be according to the info at the Camground Host's Kiosk. You can drive in too, plenty
of room to park.
We've always had a great time at our BBQ and look forward to doing another. Hope you can make it.
Dave and Fran Stroud.......SEE YOU THERE !!!
