'Hi group. My restoration is moving along. My goal in making it to Oshkosh this year is not going to happen so my sights are on next year. My question for the group is did the wings have any washout built into them. I am just about ready to retremal and put the lead edges on and I want to make sure I do this right. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks JON'

'Wash out.....I don't think so. I rebuilt mine and basically went with the wing being perfectly flat. In the rigging department, I don't remember ever seeing any numbers that suggest any wash-out. I paid particular attention to making that the internal structure was as square as possible. I made sure that the wing attach fitting mounting holes on the fuselage and the wing all alligned the same, all of the brace wires and compression struts were were square and that the spars were straight. Since I was working alone, I only applied the leading edge skin across 3 bays at a time. I only dampened about 4 inchs of the plywood in the area where it wrapped around the nose of the ribs. I didn't fasten down the plywood to the top or bottom spars until the epoxy had completely setup.
I didn't do too badly overall. The measurements between the center aileron mounts to the rudder mount on the tail differed by only 3/4". Considering how much was damaged was done in an early wreck, that ain't too bad. I think, that somewhere in some of the earlier Fairchild Flyers (15+years ago), I wrote down alot of what I learned. I did new spars, new bushings, new ribs, leading edge plys, and of couse tip bows.
