Fairchild 24 tail wheel cable tension

'What is the tail wheel tension supposed to be to the tail wheel
assembly? The manual says 51lbs for the rudder but is that the same
for the tail wheel?

Also, I am getting some pretty severe tail wheel shimmy on landing and
everything in the tail wheel assembly seems to be tight - no movement.
I know I may be touching down with the tail wheel sideways but is there
anything else to check?

The two turn-buckles, as I see it, can set the tension that you want, obviously less than 85#, and allow you to center the tail wheel to the rudder. Both the Military & Civilian manuals, that I have, don't address tension of the tail wheel cable.

I think that the use of a tail wheel lock may be a good solution to the shimmy problem.

I didn't have much of a problem, with mine, when I was flying, but I was using a square shoulder tire.
