'Thanks David,
I appreciate your honesty! You have given me more food for thought.
I currently own a Stinson 108-1 which has proven itself to be a reliable ride, but I always wanted a Fairchild 24.
I guess I'll see how the pre-purchase inspection goes before I make up my mind.
Cheers,

Consider that I bought an F 24 project that needed a complete rebuild a couple of
years ago. It was about a 1941 model. One spar was completely broken thru and I
knew that upon pre purchase agreement. What startled me, was when I pulled on the
door skins, the horizontal stab and vertical fin, the glue gave up like that stuff we used
to put on candy apples at Halloween. Scary indeed. I suspect that some may still be
flying on that original glue, yet I cannot attest to the care and feeding ( hangared or not )
on the airplane that I refer to.

Does anyone operate an Fairchild 24 on floats?
What engine do you use?
Finally, what's the score on the wooden spar on the F24? How do you
inspect? How often do you inspect it? What do you do if it needs
replacing? I have a three year old Son who flies with me, and I'm
thinking more about his safety before I dive into buying the F24 that
I'm considering.
As usual, thank you for your insite.
Cheers,
Roger Noke
