Mogas

'Bob,
Why would one need a STC for Mo-gas? My manuals state to use aviation
grade 73-87 octane as does the sticker on the wing, not 100LL so if
I use 100LL am I disregarding the manual? is it better to use mogas 87
octane (or higher) or aviation grade 100L?. Seems like either choice
is illegal according to the manual. I run one tank of mogas and one of
100LL. My mogas doesn't have alcohol and all my flying is below 3000'.

Hey John great to hear from you, I think you will find that the
STC is for the engine only, and only
In an F 24 type airframe. No any other certified airframe such as a
Widgeon
or M 62 has a STC. I have
used 92-93 octane rated mo-gas in various Ranger engines for the last 20
years and I have not had to buy a
spark plug since. As I recall two STC's are required, a power plant
and an
airframe. Bob Haas.
