Fuselage Cover

'Hi Guys-
Our Fuselage fabric will be here at the end of the
week!
Please advise any critical or tricky areas we should
keep a look out for!
We decided to use the PolyFiber System.
Any Comments would be appreciated.

'Giday Jim. congrats on your progress. I used the Polyfiber system on my
current ride and have no regrets. Everything was predictable except that
Polyfiber can't do real good math on using flattner ratios. Maybe not an
issue with you.

There are other and newer covering systems out there and I'd be pleased
to hear any feedback on research/use of them that anyone has out there
especially on the non toxic types.

They are waterborne coatings that are even compatible with installation over other coatings if need be. One of their other pluses is that you can use the same product over fabric and metal so there is no color shift as in the dopes/enamels. Check it out! Tailwinds, Steve.

is pushing us toward Aerothane with a flatner agent to
match the WW2 paint scheme, have you ever used
Aerothane?
How is your F24 coming along?

'Giday Jim. Double check the ratios on using flatner with Aerothane
Polyfiber products. There are math errors in some Polyfiber books.
I used Aerothane and the regular Polytone on my Christavia. I think
the colour was Federal 208 Olive Drab. The polytone is very easy to
spray. I used a real basic Wagner airless sprayer and if you produced
a run in the paint, you can just wipe it off with a paper towel and respray
immediately and no one could tell anything ran. It was idiot proof for sure.

On most of my projects I use Poly Tone on the fabric and
Aerothane for everything else. I did use Aerothane on the fabric wings
on a Cessna 120. and am using it on everything on the Fairchild. I have
used Aerothane fully flattened on a Cub inst panel and it works really
well. The Poly Tone is easy to use but doesn't have a shine. The
Aerothane is a little tricky because if you aren't careful it will
run(sometimes it wont run when you are spraying it but will soon after.
and you need a good paint gun and an HVLP gun doesn't work very well for
it. One thing to remember is to give it plenty of time between coats (I
usually wait 30 minuets and then press my thumb on some over sprayed
object. If it comes off on your thumb you need to wait. Hope this helps.
