WANTED: Fairchild Argus I or II (UC-61?)

Posted: Sat Dec 02, 2006 1:47 pm
by Jon
'Hello,

I am looking for a Fairchild 24 to paint in RAF colours to represent an
Argus I or II, to be based in England. It needs to be a Warner engined
version, as there are already 4 Ranger engined versions flying over
here, none of which represent an Argus of the RAF.

Ideally, I would like to find a cheap one that is airworthy but in need
of a repaint and a little love.

If anyone knows where there may be one like this for sale I would be
pleased to hear from you.

Regards,

Jon.'

'hello Jon & James
Although not for sale, My partner Bob and I are
rebuilding a UC-61K that has documented service
history qith the RAF. It flew as HB-690 mostly with
the A.T.A. but possibly with other RAF Units.
We are restoring our baby to full RAF miltary
specifications. If there is anything we can do to
assist in your quest(s) please do not hesitate to
contact us.
Thanks

'Hi James,

Yes I have seen your Argus, rather close up. I was standing at Deenethorpe at the time next to the DC6 :-) Your father has also shown me around it, but I would love to get a trip in it sometime.

There are currently 4 Argus' on the British register, one of which it appears is based in Holland, and one it would seem is not currently airworthy.

If and when I find one I would love to do a display routine with you, I already have a display authorisation on lots of other aircraft. Check out www.classicflight.com to see what else I fly.

Regards,

Jon.

'Hello Jon,

All the best of luck finding a genuine UC-61 or UC-61A for sale. There
are only a few left in Europe. Flying or in the process of restoration
are 2 in Sweden, 1 in Danmark, 1 in Italy, 2 in Switzerland, 1 in
Spain, 1 in Germany.

The closest to a UC-61 (not A) would be a F24W-41 model.

You might be better off to look for a UC-61K (ArgusIII) There was
F-AZCI in France advertised in this forum for sale, also more recently
one in Argentina.
There are following UC-61K in the UK: G-BCBL(in RAF colours), G-BCBH,
G-RGUS, N14988, perhaps G-AJPI. The rest of the ArgusIII (to my
knowlege) are 2 in France, 1 in Germany, 1 in Switzerland, 1 in Spain,
1 in USA.

However, there are a handful of UC-61 and UC-61A in Australia and
South Africa.

For more info please mail to me.

regards

Karl Saenger, UC-61K c/n 891; USAAF 43-14927; RAF HB653; HB-ERO
