Warner Ring Cowl & Exhaust

'To All: I recently bought some spare parts for my airplane and ended
up with a Warner ring cowl and exhaust assembly that are surplus to my
needs (my project is Ranger powered). I have just put an add with
pictures for these items on Barnstormers; if you're interested in these
items, contact me at 817 280 9306 or via e-mail at bdon661*aol.com.
The ring cowl is in fair condition. It has some patches and small
dents that would need attention before it is usable again. The exhaust
system is missing the heat muffs and the interconnect tube or clamp
that connects the halves of the system at the top two cylinders. The
exhaust system is also mild steel and is showing some surface rust and
other signs of age - probably good more as a pattern rather than for
return to service. I have no idea what type of airplane these items
are from, they were part of a large group of parts that I bought and
the previous owner didn't know their origin.
I'm asking $250 / each for these items, plus shipping, or best offer.
I'd prefer to trade both of them for a rebuildable Aeromatic F220 hub.

'I hate to reply to my own post, but the exhaust system sold to the
first caller. The ring cowl is still available and I just realized I
also have the boot cowl that has the oil service door in it; not
included in the $250 asking price for the ring cowl.

'Brad:
Just left a message on your phone. Would like to talk to you about
the Cowl Ring. Hope I'm not to late. Where are you located? What
about the boot cowl? I need the ring and the boot would be a spare
(or user depending on condition)
Thanks for your time.

'Mark: I'll call you today (Monday). The ring cowl is still available
(I think it's for a 145hp installation, but I'm not sure), as is the
boot cowl. I'm in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, so plan on shipping
being over $100 to go UPS or FedEx ground.

'HELLO EVERYONE-
MY PARTNER BOB AND I ARE COMING TO A TRICKY POINT IN
THE RESTORATION OF OUR BABY. WE ARE TRYING OUR BEST TO
FIGURE THE CORRECT WAY TO ROUTE THE FUEL LINES
WHERE THE FUEL LINES GO UP THE WINDOW FRAME AND BEND
OVER THE TOP CORNER OF THE DOOR FRAME. THIS SEEMS TO
HAVE US A LITTLE PUZZLED. THERE IS A HALF MOON PIECE
OF INTERIOR THAT COVERED THAT AREA, BUT ALL THE MANUAL
AND PICTURES WE LOOK AT JUST DON'T SHOW THE EXACT WAY
THE LINES ROUTE. CAN ANYONE SEND US PICTURES OR
DRAWING ON THE CORRECT ROUTING OF THE FUEL LINES.
THANKS

'Jim,
It's hard to explain the routing from the selector valve up and
into the wing butt area.
I replaced both sides a while back, and it was a chore. If your
lucky enough to have the wing off, and the side Plexiglas out,
it'll be easier. I don't know what stage of restoration you're at,
but if you can hang the fuel shutoff valve in it's correct position
first, then layout the tubing you'll see it can only go in one way.
The hassle is there are compound curves at the top bends. Tubing
must be snug against the airframe structure at the top curves or
you'll never get the cabin interior pieces to sit correctly. The
piece of Balsa you mentioned is to hide the tubing at the top when
finishing up. That wood piece is held in place by a triangular piece
of metal that forms the ventilator (gasper) and hand strap. A 3/8
spring tube bender worked best for me.. I have never seen a picture
or schematic of this area. Good frickin' luck buddy. I'll talk to
you later!

'Just what we were thinking!
We have no glass in and wings are off, so it is a bit
easier, did you make both lines come out nex to each
other?

'Jimbo,
I made the tubes coming out the backside of the shutoff valve
parallel to each other, Horizontal to each other that is, then
straight up and through the two holes in the window sill. That's all
cool and great up to the top where, somewhere, somehow, a 90 degree
turn has to be made so the tubes can run aft a short distance, then
another 90 towards the wing butt These two bends are made with tubes
stacked on top of each other, not parallel, you'd never get the
interior panels to sit properly if they were side by side.. The main
difficulty is not only do you make 90 degree turns, the tubes must
also be bent slightly around, and towards the cockpit, around the
beefier longeron in that area. There's lots of sharp edges and area's
where the tubes can rub so I backed them all up with a scrap piece of
tubing cut in half so it'd kinda cradle the tubes at rub points . Tie
wraps worked well in this area. Nothing fancy. Have fun my friend,
and remember it's just a hobby.

'Thanks for all of the words about the fuel lines. I have all 4 of the old lines and am still scratching my head about how they fit, once upon a time.
I can say that the old lines have some rather strange looking bends in them. For most of their length, they have a substantial layer of friction tape on them.
