I have heard they used radiator caps from a 1939 Mercury automobile.
Any info and where to find the items ASAP?

'That is what is used, drill a small vent hole leading edge . Cap

'Brian: I think Bob is right about the source for the caps. When I was
looking for original caps, Steve Kretsinger referred me to the Winter
1999 "Flyer" that said the caps were from 1933 - 1936 Chevy radiators,
part # C8100E, and again with the caveat that you wanted to drill a
vent hole in them. I think that style or design of cap was pretty
common, so finding them on a Mercury or Chrysler or DeSoto would not be
any surprise. Whether they are truly "correct" or not isn't nearly as
important as the fact that they look a lot better on the airplane than
a modern style fuel cap.

If you find them through Hemmings, please let me know; I ended up
ordering mine from an antique car parts company here in Texas and it
was a bit of an ordeal.
