'Question Please,
When servicing the hydraulic/spring landing gear strut should the
level of fluid be brought all the way up `til it runs out the filler
plug on top of the piston. I serviced these unit's a while back and
filled them `til it ran out a screw plug lower down on the cylinder.
I'm not getting much shock absorption using this technique. Manuals
aren't very clear on this.

'RE the Clunk....
1)Raise plane til oleo (shock absorber??) fully extended
2) Take a 1-2 mike and mike very top of piston tube and as near
packing nut as possible then go up each 1/4" for 4".
3) Gasp!

If filled to the "filler" plug the fluid will be on the floor by
morning and the level will be nearly proper since this put the fluid
above the Garlock monkeysh#$% packing.
