Up dated page

of the rest of the wing joints and did you have to take any remedial action ?

The wings were in pretty good shape, except for the leading edges. All
glue joints were solid.'

'I would like to point out something that I learned many years ago about
Warner motors and their associated cowls. You may know it already,
obviously it looks like one of the previous owner of your Fairchild didn't.

Don't mount the cowl tightly to the motor/cowl mounts. I learned the hard
was. If the cowl is snug to the mounts when it is cold, as the motor comes
up to operating temperature, it will grow in diameter. The end result looks
just like your photograph showed. It should be a little loose, even when
the motor is up to temperature. The only caution that I am aware of is to
ensure that the cowl can not move forward far enough to contact the back
edge of the propeller. I was told that the standing pressure wave in front
of the motor can move the cowl forward when you are in flight.

The other thing that I saw many years ago was the owner/pilot thought that
you needed to remove the propeller & cowl in order to gain access to all of
the rear spark plugs. You can split the cowl at the bottom then lift it off
the mounts and pull it slightly forward. From there you can reach all the
rear plugs with an extension between the socket and the handle. I think
that there was one or more plugs that requires a universal joint between the
socket and the extension.

I really love that carburetor heat control valve assembly.....I wish I had
one. It would be such a conversation piece
