'Hey group,
I have the Stromberg carburetor setup on my C-5. The carb is off right
now, so I thought I might as well send it off for a check over and
rebuild if needed.
I noticed the Data plate is stamped NA-R4B sure enough, but also
stamped for use on an L-440-1 engine.
Now I thought the L-440-1 was the Army 175 Hp model and here it is
hooked up to my Ranger 200Hp. Anybody knows if there's a conflict of
jet sizes here? There are indications this engine is running hot. It
could be running lean. Any thoughts.........Thanks

'Tom,
Check Aircraft Engine Specification E-216 for the
6-440 series engines. The carb is approved for use on
either engine but the settings (carb jets?) are
different between the 175 and 200. You will have to
consult the Stromberg manual to see what this setting
is. The spec can be downloaded from the FAA.org
website.
L-440-1 (6-440-C2) is the 175hp and L-440-2, -3, -5,
-7 (6-440-C5) are 200hp. There are 6-440-C3 (180hp)
and -C4 (190hp) models listed but I have never seen
one.
