'Karl,

Does your UC-61 have a bracket at the top of the tail post which goes around
the main spar of the vertical? That was not original on Fairchilds, but the
military decided it was a safety factor.

My 1940 model was drafted into the military in 1943 and served as a UC-61.
It has the bracket (which is shown in the military parts listing.) I put
cables on my landing gear legs. They are covered by the gear fairings, so
what's your problem? You say Sherman Fairchild figured they weren't needed, but
whose to say that a gland nut has never worked loose and allowed the oleo to
separate and the gear fall down? I'll take the safety factor, thank you!
