'I didn't have much trouble getting mine out. I did find a adjustable wrench a few years ago. The place I got it and P/N are somewhere in the Fairchild Club history.
Another way to go, maybe to cool the gland with Ice or maybe dry Ice and warm the main body of the strut. It is probably easier said than done.
